Surveillance cameras in schools are meant to keep children safe and in-line, but a kiss, a camera and a controversy have Gig Harbor High School in Washington in an uproar.
A security camera captured two girls kissing, but it's what happened next that sparked a surveillance debate. With Warren County schools having surveillance cameras not only in the high schools but in the middle school and elementary schools as well, you'll want to read on because reporter Keith Eldridge's brings you the story that asks the question: When does Big Brother surveillance cross the line?
The dean of students said he saw two girls kissing. He checked the surveillance tape then shared what he saw with the parents of one of the girls. They then pulled her out of school, which then pulled the peninsula school district into a big controversy.

I'm not even sure where to begin on this one, because its just that damn retarded. Last I heard those cameras were to protect the students not to be used against them in such a orwellian manner. The only shred of legal ground I can see the school having to stand on is that public displays of affection may be against the rules there, however that should warrant a slap on the wrist.
What really gets my blood boiling and the volume of my ranting and raving is that some of the opinion put forth by the author of the article as well as a lot of the comments that followed on the site. Are you people seriously that fucking stupid that you welcome Orwell's nightmare with open arms because 'you have nothing to hide'. If your the state and ruling party's ideal of a perfect citizen then you might just be right, but what happens when they decide to change that and you suddenly find yourself as much of a social pariah as blacks during the integration period or homosexuals during the explosion of AIDS? Just because the powers that be leave you alone today is no assurance that things wont change later and you find yourself on the same end of the stick that sane people find themselves now.
And speaking of homosexuality its obvious from both the comments and the article itself that many of the commenters as well as the dean who was responsible for showing the video to one of the girls' parents are quite adamant homophones and incapable of rising above such things. I suspect that both groups named would rather make their own children miserable and on the verge of taking their own life than be compassionate and accept them for who they are irregardless of which sex the are attracted to. Great going you flesh bags, way to show the world how wonderful a people American's can be.
