A tatste of things to come

Friday, November 21, 2008

So I'm mindlessly surfing the various news sites while passing the last hour at work when I come across this:

Caffery File: Next 20 Years - How worried are you?

A massive majority of the comments are very much doom and gloom, most of them don't even worry about anything past 4 years from now because they don't think there will be much left of the country to even worry about. I've been called a lot of things in my time because of my views, but its honestly scary sometimes to see so many people sharing my same outlook on the course of events in the country and world in general.

I don’t think we have 20 years. I am planning now, by buying bottled water, food items that can be stored for long periods of time, containers of gas, emergency equipment, flashlight, batteries, candles, etc. Better to be prepared than soory.

I have subscribed to this mentality for a long time and have the gear and supplies to back it up. Often I was chided for being a doom and gloom type and preparing for what was often mistakenly referred to as the end of the world; its just the end of things as we know it or TEOTAWKI in the survivalist circles. Its not that we want these things to happen but our guts tell us that its better to prepare for the worst case scenario and hope for the best.

I just glad my health is deteriorating. The future looks very bleak, indeed.

Now this one is just depressing through and through, when your outlook is so dark that you actually embrace failing health as a way to escape the perceived hard times ahead you know something is definitely not right. Usually people wish for a fast end when they have terminal illnesses, to hear someone heralding their own demise prior to a potential collapse of society is just beyond words really.

I contemplated lobbing my own cluster of words up for the file but in the end it doesn't really matter does it? The roller coaster is already under way and its a little late to try to squirm out from the restraints and make a run for the exit. We as a nation and a world have made this bed and now we must take our proper place in it come ruin or redemption.

Is this really a bright idea?

So there is this group/magazine/cult/commieclique called Adbusters, and they are currently support Buy Nothing Day where on black Friday you sit at home and don't purchase anything. While noble no doubt this year is most certainly not the time to pull this shit, not with the economy balancing on the edge of a knife like it is. Their cause might be noble to those uninformed masses who spend their ivy league college days smoking pot and shagging blondes by the dozen, the rest of us with a modicum of intelligence realize that they are nothing but fools to advocate such nonsense as Buy Nothing Day.

The overall lack of consumer confidence is part of the reason the economy is in the shitter right now and they want to try to hurt the economy further by telling people NOT to buy things? If I were a raving right-wing hardliner I might call that downright un-american and suggest that they be tried in tribunals as terrorists for advocating an action that will adversely affect the economy. I wont however because I know they are just misguided youth who have developed a ill informed dislike for capitalist ideas and consumerism in general; they shun such things even though all of the good things they have in their lives right now are almost a direct result of such movements. The alternatives are not all the mouth-breathers would have us believe and I for one would prefer this system to the ones touted as superior (which generally are not but that's another post)

Implosion Watch: Automotive Industry

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

So if you have been following the news you have no doubt heard that several huge US automotive companies are at risk of collapsing very soon if they aren't bailed out. Washington however seems to not want to shovel money to them even after they gave mountains of money to bail out banks that made some stupid decisions but didn't think they should pay the price for their own actions. While I also think the idea of another bailout is not what we need I would also bet that if (more likely when) the major companies in Detroit start falling like dominoes, then you can be sure the economy will tank even harder than it has in the past year. Confidence is laying dead on the bottom of the toilet bowl at this point even with the election of the nation's first African-American president, so this will come as a veritable death blow to the economy and potentially bring about the most brutal hit to the stock market we have seen yet.

If anybody out there still has any doubts about what we are seeing its time to suck it up and admit we are in the Second Great Depression and now is the time to start preparing for the harsh times ahead.

Coming Soon: Compulsory Service?

Saturday, November 15, 2008

All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service. ...

That is a quote derived from the book The Plan: Big Ideas for America by Rahm Emanuel and Bruce reed where they lay out among many ideas a GDR like program where young people are required to undergo some very interesting training, including what I suspect to be a offshoot of the military BCT (Basic Combat Training). This is just one of the things in the works for the American people under the leadership of Barack Hussein Obama II and his as yet undecided cabinet of advisers. Already parallels between this and the Hitler Jungen or Hitler Youth are arising, and given the lack of information regarding the training that conscripts will be given I would have to say its very worrying at the least, and potentially terrifying in a worst case scenario.

Everyone voted for Bush and they got what they deserved; now they have picked Obama and will get more of the same.

Pick one people

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

I was just finishing up my lunch in a fast food shop in the local mall when I woman comes in looking to order food. After placing her order the cashier gives her the total and she proceeds to pull out plastic to pay; upon seeing this the boy behind the counter asks her to show ID before he can process the card. This sends the woman into a fit about how ridiculous it is that she has to show her ID before she can pay with her card. Fortunately for the the sake of others (and hers) she decides to just storm off instead of flash her ID so that she can get some food on her lunch break. After finishing up my food I made my way to the counter and informed the guy working there that he shouldn't sweat people like that, they will whine even louder when someone steals their identity and runs up huge bills.

It drives me nuts to see people get so indignant about something so simple, and something that in fact does add a modicum of security to paying with credit or debit cards. When I paid for my food I was asked for my ID, and I gladly showed the cashier my drivers license to prove that I wasn't some scum sucking thief out to get a free lunch on someone's dime. Of all the inconveniences that people have and should rightfully complain about having someone ensure your card is not being misused by criminals is certainly one people should just shut up and live with. I would be hard pressed to have any sympathy for the woman in this case should her identity be stolen; she obviously wasn't appreciative of a company creating a policy that for once actually helps protect the customer.
